Harold Bell Wright’s 1907 story about power, hardship, love, and loss is brought to life each evening at the Branson Shepherd of the Hills outdoor drama.

The Timeless Story Returns to Branson!

After the passing of the show’s owner and patriarch in the fall of 2013, the Shepherd of the Hills outdoor play announced that it would be shutting its doors and that it would be the last year of performances.

However, such demand and support from the community and visitors prompted the family to re-open for the 2014 season! With a limited series of shows scheduled for the season, guests have the chance to once again see one of the area’s most historic and requested live entertainment to ever play in the Midwest!

Epic, outdoor drama!

Forever immortalized and ingrained in the memory of our nation – this epic story is played out by over 80 performers, more than 40 horses, and actual burning log cabin, a flock of sheep, and an authentic 1908 DeWitt automobile to that help bring this famous story to life!

Millions have seen the show!

More than just another show in Branson – the Shepherd of the Hills tells the story of the Ozarks and local area.  Since its inception and first performance in 1960, the property has entertained literally millions of people from around the world who come to see the outdoor play in all of its glory.  The outdoor story that unfolds in front of you as you watch the show is something that will create memories for you, your children, and your family or friends!

Family fun and entertainment!

Your outdoor adventure begins as you enjoy the pre-show which is immediately followed by the main performance.  Even the intermission offers fun as the whole audience is invited to join the cast of the show for a square dance hoedown.

One of the most popular and famous outdoor performances in the world – come revisit the history of the area with the Shepherd of the Hills show in Branson!

My family and I had checked into seeing this show several years ago (as we had always heard it’s a staple of Branson), but unfortunately didn’t get the opportunity to see it, as a VERY low budget family at the time, the ticket prices were a bit high for us. Leaving with our heads hung low, we all have wanted to see it ever since. Last year when they announced the show was to be no more, we were all very upset, but none as much as I was. We always wanted to see it. Dynamics in our family have changed some and when we heard the show was opening back up, we got so excited. On a very quick, unplanned 24 hr trip into the hills, we took the Homestead Tour, and not only had a GREAT tour guide (Jacob), but we just enjoyed the entire experience as a whole. Coming home we planned to go back in a month. Needless to say, none of us had read the book until then. I read the book 3 times in one month and just couldn’t wait to see the play. We went to the show 9-26-14 and it was EVERYTHING we could have asked for. Between the hospitality of all involved (it felt like going to see family), the talented actors, great seating… it was all wonderful. I only would have liked to see our tour guide (Jacob) in the play more this time, but o well, maybe next time!!! I would recommend this show HIGHLY to anyone, for any amount of money. Please, please, don’t close the show. I’ll be coming back often.

I saw this show with our older children 20 years ago. We thought it was closed and when we discovered it open, we had to revisit with our younger children. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed it again. I really believe it was better than before. Thanks to all of the actors and actresses for their hard work. Please don’t let it go away. We have grandchildren that will need to see it in the next few years.

  4. Richie Stark says:

Love the play each time, the kids were just stary eyed the whole time, especially when they could get up and dance. The following Friday we took the tower tour and were lucky to have a man named Thomas give us a private tour. The man was simply great, kids soaked everything in and the way he taught and showed them the cabin, pictures, the table where the book was written….well that man was the best part of the show/tour. I know he plays Olie in the show and the banjo and was graet as well….maybe that’s why he’s there 27 years. My hat goes off to all of you, but Thomas I think the things he showed them and took the time will be a long time memory, great job Thomas.

I do hope this show is not closed or closeing . when my children were young they thought they could not go back to school in the fall unless we went to this show before going back to school. My youngest started going when she was about 5 years old & went until she finished school at age 18 . She won the frog race one of those years. We never got tired of The Sheppard Of The Hills. I have been planning to go again & take a special friend. This is a family tradition for us. Please keep it open.

We have seen this show twice. We are coming out in May and planned our dates around the show being there. Now I see that the show is not going to be there! What happened? It is a one of a kind!
